My Grand Adventure

Once upon a time there was a mummy,

The mummy worked very very hard in a job that she didnt really enjoy very much, that kept her away from her family a lot, and this made her sad.

In one way she was very lucky as the money she earnt enabled her family to do some pretty awesome things, like going on lots of amazing holidays and having lovely things but on the inside she got sadder, and the sadder she got the more she ate, she grew and grew and grew and that made her feel even worse inside.

On the outside it looked like she had it all going for her, a great career, 2 happy healthy children and a husband that loved her but on the inside she felt empty no matter how much food she ate and money she earnt.

One day the mummy woke up and decided that she didnt want to live like that anymore, well the doctor decided that for her, and she tried to start to change her life, one step at a time, she started talking to someone about how she felt and learning new ways of coping and feeling better about herself.

Then a short while later she found out she was pregnant and was blessed by the birth of her third beautiful baby girl. After she was born the mummy decided that the next change needed to be made and started to look after herself, she changed her diet and lost over 8 stone in weight. Her friends and family were amazed that she managed it and slowly her confidence began to come back and she walked with a little spring in her step, not feeling like wallpaper anymore.

The mummy decided that if she didnt want to go back to her old career she would need to find a new one, one that would fulfil her desire to help people in the same way as she had been helped when she was at her lowest and she enrolled on a degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy at the tender age of 35. She worked very hard at university and volunteered with a charity doing counselling with children and that made her feel like she was doing something worthwhile.

The family were really happy, their mummy had gone from being so very sad to happy and fun again, and the only things they missed about the old mummy and her job were the lovely holidays they used to go on. The little girl adored Mickey Mouse and the older children loved to tell her all about the times they had been to Disneyland and how amazing the theme parks were.
So the little girl asked Santa if she could go to Disneyland too but that was one thing that even Santa couldn’t make happen and her mummy felt a bit upset that she hadnt been able to take her youngest daughter to meet the World’s Most Loved Mouse.
Daddy and the children were so encouraging and patient with mummy for all those years, allowing her to grow from a caterpillar to a butterfly, spread her wings and change her life.So the mummy decided if she won the Grand Adventure prize of £1000 from MoneySupermarket, she would take her family to Disneyland Paris, and introduce Mickey and Minnie to their number one fan.

This time, the mummy wouldn’t have to hide behind her family, ashamed of who she was and how fat she looked, she would stand proud and happy, recognising how truly blessed she really was.

Mummy thought this would be the best kind of Grand Adventure – where all the family could celebrate together  as a family of 5 how far they had come and how exciting their future was going to be.

What a lovely, positive story – A happy mummy is much more important than all the fancy holidays in the world – but I hope you win !
